In 2006, Matt Carlson and Darren Spencer joined forces in order to provide a much-needed solution for Minneapolis buyers seeking affordably priced and tastefully updated urban condominiums. The effective combination of Carlson’s local real estate knowledge and Spencer’s 20+ years of contracting experience helped the company grow quickly and organically through both referrals and word of mouth. The goal? To help revitalize and add imaginative, thoughtful design to downtown Minneapolis condos that never quite escaped their decades-old, weathered interiors. For this purpose, Spencer assembled a strong, local team of talented subcontractors that work in tandem to provide exceptional service for every client. From dealing with ancient elevators to working with challenging Homeowner’s Association guidelines, to revitalizing cramped interiors, the company’s expertise in navigating downtown Minneapolis construction has made them a standout in residential remodeling.
In 2015, Spencer became the principal founder and operator of Skyline Renovations. Spencer is a resident of downtown Minneapolis, and has been recognized by Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine as a Super Real Estate Agent™. Today, he continues to work in real estate as an agent with Lakes | Sotheby’s, International Realty in Edina, MN, as well as working to bring thoughtful design to the urban landscape of downtown Minneapolis, one condo at a time.
About Darren Spencer
Skyline Renovations founder and principal operator Darren Spencer brings his expertise in business and design to the company from a unique background in commercial development, real estate, and remodeling. Born in South Dakota, Spencer’s childhood in a home with a general contractor father and real estate agent mother shaped his affinity for the design, building, and marketing aspects of both houses and condominiums. After sixteen years working in the commercial development industry in South Dakota, Spencer relocated to the Twin Cities in 2000. While searching for his personal home, Spencer noticed the visible lack of creative, design and high-quality construction in the apartments and condominiums available in the downtown Minneapolis housing market. Thus, his passion for revamping and renovating tired spaces into fresh, open homes was born.
Spencer’s guiding tenet is simple: ‘builder grade will never do.’ The spacious, well-crafted interiors of his homes are the premiere example of this philosophy. As a Minneapolis resident, Spencer understands firsthand the appeal of a fantastic urban location attainable without having to settle for low-grade housing and construction.
